Walk the historic trail

Take the time to soak up the history of Beltana by following the walking trail. An informative set of interpretative signs provide details about significant town buildings and life in the pioneering outback.

You’ll learn about the past importance of Beltana as a transport and communications hub and why it continues to be an enduring historic town. After walking the Trail, come to the Hotel for an afternoon beer or glass of bubbles on the veranda as the sun sets.

Camping in Beltana

Beltana offers a safe and comfortable campsite for tents, caravans and campervans. There are toilets and hot showers and great mobile reception. You can enjoy the communal firepits (bring your own firewood) and there is a free barbecue in the community park.

Beltana Art Collection

Located within the Town Hall, the Beltana Art Collection spans 30 years of artistic expression and presents a range of differing styles and media.

The opening of the Collection marked the final stage in the restoration of the Town Hall – a project undertaken over many years by the local community.

Warraweena Station

Just 25 kilometres east of Beltana is Warraweena, a 355 square kilometre former sheep station now operating as a tourist destination. Offering secluded bush campsites and other accommodation.

There’s a range of 4WD tracks from hard (Mt Gill Loop) to easier (The Copper Track). Both tracks are charged at $55 per vehicle. There are also some station tracks that can be explored for free.

Aroona Dam

Aroona Dam is a remarkable and tranquil spot for a picnic. The dam was originally built to supply Leigh Creek with water and is now a recreation reserve which allows non-powered boating and some fishing is allowed.

There is abundant wildlife and towering cliffs surrounding a large body of water that is an unexpected oasis in the Outback.

Nilpena Ediacara National Park

Nilpena Ediacara National Park is a place of rich cultural heritage and exceptional scientific value, where some of the best preserved evidence of the first complex animal life has been discovered and currently researched. Access is by guided tour only where visitors experience an immersive audio visual presentation and tour of the research site.

Beltana is the closest campground to Nilpena Ediacara. It is recommended to book a two night stay. Day one to explore the town ready for an early start on the Park tour.
